42.9 million Americans will hit the road on July 4, upstart says

Compared to last year, when many festivities were canceled amid the Covid-19 pandemic, road travel activity will be up 25%. How the data is calculated
Arrivalist’s methodology is based on a balanced panel representative of GPS signals representing road trips made specifically by car (excluding air travel). A trip is measured as a trip where the user has traveled a minimum of 50 miles and spent a minimum of two hours at the destination. Home-to-work trips or other frequently repeated trips, that is to say deliveries of goods or other recurring activities, are excluded from the index of daily trips.
