Bakersfield business and government leaders tour Bitwise’s nearly full downtown campus

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Bitwise Industries, the worksharing/technology/software developer academy, is gearing up for an extended grand opening delayed by the pandemic.
Bitwise took another step in that direction on Monday when the company hosted two dozen local civic leaders for lunch and a tour of the facility at the corner of 18th and H Streets, across from 18th from the Padre Hotel.
Among the guests was Kern County Administrative Manager Ryan Alsop, who said he never entered Turk’s Copy’s dramatically renovated former home.
“Beyond the presence they have downtown and the effects that come with it,” Alsop said, “they are a great community partner for the county and the city of Bakersfield, building on the spirit of business.”
The copy of the Turk, or east side, of the 18th Street campus is complete but operating at 50% capacity, and work continues on the west side of the facility, the former Vincent’s Cyclery building. Bit-level officials say this side of campus is possibly 90 days away.
It has some surprises in store, which we will share with you in the days to come.
Regarding the Porterfield Hotel wedged between the two buildings, Bitwise is reportedly in receivership to buy the retirement apartments for $1 million, but the company’s only comment so far has been, “The deal doesn’t is not yet concluded and until the escrow closes, we can’t say much.
