Bird group’s Ankur Bhatia dies at age 48, travel industry, business leaders tolerate demise | Company news
New Delhi: Bird Group executive director Ankur Bhatia died Friday June 4 from cardiac arrest. The 48-year-old was credited with bringing the Amadeus brand to the Indian subcontinent in 1994.
Amadeus is a leading brand in providing travel technology for travel agents and airlines. Overall, Bird Group is a diverse group and has interests in travel technology and hospitality, among other segments.
In an official statement on Friday, Bird Group said: “It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the sudden passing of our beloved Dr Ankur Bhatia, Executive Director of the Bird Group. Dr Bhatia (48) suffered massive cardiac arrest this morning and died of it. ”
“We have not only lost our leader, our visionary, but the world has lost an amazing human being. The Bhatia family are in a state of deep shock and ask you to respect their privacy at this difficult time of mourning,” added the society.
He has also spearheaded the group’s growth in the hospitality sector under Bird Hospitality Services and assets include Roseate Hotels & Resorts. He is also credited with launching the country’s first natural and perennial indoor ice rink iSKATE in Gurugram, according to the group.

The group also owns and operates six luxury properties in India and the UK, each with an individual brand identity.
According to the group, Bhatia piloted Reservation Data Maintenance (India) Pvt Ltd (RDM), a software development and IT support services company for managing airline back-end operations and inventory control. RDM was India’s first BPO, established in 1993 and today has an enviable list of airline clients in its portfolio.

Another company is Bird Information Systems (BIS) and it had also opened an IT solutions and services company in Dubai, Bird Technologies FZ LLC.
