Food Network and Discovery + enter holiday movie business with ‘Candy Coated Christmas’ starring Ree Drummond
Food Network is teaming up with its sister streaming service Discovery + to enter the vacation TV business with the cable channel’s very first scripted film: “Candy Coated Christmas”.
Although the film, which features “Pioneer Woman” star Ree Drummond in her first-ever acting role, is a Food Network production, it will not air on the cable channel, but will only be available to Discovery subscribers. +, TheWrap learned.
“Candy Coated Christmas” follows a young woman (Molly McCook) who returns to her mother’s hometown, Peppermint Hollow, after her business launch plans are derailed by circumstances. Drummond plays the owner of a bakery who befriends the woman and introduces her around town.
The film, which wrapped production earlier this month in Utah, is directed by Ellie Kanner (“Love and Sunshine”) and written by Kanner, Alex Yonks and Joey Plager.
“Candy Coated Christmas” marks the first draft of a production deal between Food Network and Discovery +, parent company Discovery, Inc., and production company MarVista Entertainment.
